Youth Hockey Learn To Skate & Development Program

Medford Youth Hockey & Girl's Hockey is a 20 week program, offered to the children of Medford and surrounding communities from ages 4-12 years old.

 All new players and returning player will be evaluated on the ice during the Thursday October 10th at 6:PM and Saturday October 12th at 12:PM sessions at the LoConte Rink, Medford.

After being evaluated at the Oct. 10th and October 12th sessions by our instructors, all Learn to Skate (Beginners) and Development Clinic players will begin their (2) weekly classes on Thursday October 17th and Saturday October 19th at their appropriate skill level program.

Tuition: (To Be Determined)

Learn to Skate Clinic (Beginners) - Players are taught the basics of ice skating, establishing balance on skates, skating and gliding on skates and being able to get up off the ice on their own to a standing position. In addition, the fundamental first steps of skating and stopping on ice skates. 

Schedule: Two (2) Weekly On-Ice Sessions Thursdays at 6:PM and Saturdays at 12:PM (Noon)

Development Clinic (Advanced) - Players are taught to skate at an increased speed level, always working on snow plow and two skate hockey stops, pivoting while skating, turning in different directions, skating backwards later during the season, the introduction of hockey sticks. Boys and Girls are taught stops, turns, backwards, circles and many speed drills with hockey sticks and with pucks. Puck handling and shooting and cross ice scrimmaging teaches the early stages of the game of hockey in preparation to be called up to the Learn to Play In-House Team.

Required Equipment: Hockey helmet with full facemask (cage), neck protection guard (NEW), hockey skates, lightweight elbow and knee pads, athletic supporter, hockey or winter gloves and warm clothing. Each player will receive a team hockey jersey and hockey socks.
