MEDFORD, MA - Welcome to Medford Youth Hockey & Girl's Hockey in Medford, Massachusetts. Just 5-miles north of historic Boston, Medford is a college community and home to Tufts University. Ice skating has been recognized throughout the United States as one of the best youth physical fitness activities for young kids. Youth Hockey has been acclaimed as one of the best youth sports for kids because it teaches teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication and community pride.
Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey provide two (2) hockey programs. With our home rink the City of Medford managed LoConte Rink off Route #16 and within the Hormel Stadium Complex, Medford Youth Hockey and Girl's Hockey Fall~Winter Programs for boys and girls ages 4-18 provide a competitive Travel Team Youth Program, a competitive Travel Team Girl's Program and a widely popular and successful In-House (Intramural) Program that features Learn to Skate, Instructional Clinic and In-House (Learn to Play) Team Hockey.
Medford Figure Skating provides a US Figure Skating "Badge Achievement Program" on Saturday mornings at the LoConte Rink that has been recognized as one of the best city-town figure skating programs in Greater Boston for girl's and boys ages 4-15.

Travel Team Update: The Medford Youth Hockey & Girl's Hockey 2012-13 Travel Team Tryouts Grade Totals were posted at the recent April 23rd Annual Meeting. The newly elected 2012-13 Board of Directors will begin interviewing Travel Team head coaching positions followed by team selections.

Our Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey teams recently completed their 2012 League Playoffs. Playing in the best leagues, the best hours for practice at our own newly renovated LoConte Rink that allowed us to practice right up to the playoffs for the very first time and over $22,000 provided by our player development fund for increased skills sessions and goalie discounts, our overall travel team program represented our program very well during the two weeks of playoffs.
2012 VALLEY LEAGUE PLAYOFF MEDAL COUNT: Medford Youth Hockey finished tied for 4th Place with 7-programs out of a total 51-programs in the Valley League with (4) Medals at the completion of this years playoffs. Our Medford Mite-A's, Squirt-A's, Squirt-C's and PeeWee-A's medaled by advancing to the Championship Finals. With an increase of over 100 players over the past three seasons, our travel team program end of the season medal count increased from 1-medal in 2010 to 2-medals in 2011 to 4-medals in 2012. Medford teams combined for a 14-5 playoff record with 3-teams (Mite-A's, Squirt-A's and Squirt-C's) winning their playoffs with a combined 10-0 record.
2012 MIDDLESEX GIRL'S PLAYOFFS: Medford Girl's Hockey U14-A's finished as runnerup in their division and our three teams, Medford Girl's U-10A, Girl's U-12A and Girl's U-14A combined for a 3-3 playoff record with each team going 1-1.
DEGREE YOUTH HOCKEY JERSEY PROGRAM: Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey recently participated in the 2012 DEGREE YOUTH HOCKEY JERSEY PROGRAM giveaway outfitting teams across the country. TOTAL HOCKEY, partnering with USA Hockey nationwide, made available 90,000 Degree youth hockey jeresys were made available. Fortunately, our request for the upcoming 2012-13 season was approved and DEGREE YOUTH HOCKEY JERSEY PROGRAM will provide Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey (16) sets of hockey jerseys.Back to top | | | | | | | MITE-A'S - VALLEY LGE S. (7) Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey Teams Return From Lake Placid, New York and the CAN/AM Hockey Tournament - Medford Mite-A's and Medford Squirt-A's Silver Medalists !!
Congratulations to all (7) Medford travel team players, coaches and parents who travelled to Lake Placid, New York in the mountains of the Adirondacks in upstate New York to participate in the CAN/AM Youth Hockey Tournament.
All of the players represented Medford Youth Hockey, Medford Girl's Hockey and the community of Medford, Massachusetts both on the ice and off the ice proudly during the 4-day tournament.
Teams from New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ontario joined nearby Lynnfield, MA and Medford, MA playing games at the USA Olympic 3-rink complex and nearby Saranac Lake Civic Center.
The Medford Mite-A's, Medford Squirt-A's, Medford PeeWee-A's, Medford PeeWee-B's, Medford PeeWee-C's, Medford Girl's U12-A's and Medford Girl's U14-A's played a total of 28 games from Thursday through Saturday. On Sunday, the final day of the 4-day tournament, (5) Medford teams advanced to the medal rounds.
Congratulations to the Medford Mite-A's and Medford Squirt-A's for placing 2nd and being awarded the Silver Medal for their accomplishment. The Mite A's were defeated in the final Gold Medal game by the Troy/Albany, New York Mites while the Squirt-A's were defeated in the Gold Medal game by Cranford, New Jeresy Squirts. All of the players and coaches received silver medals.

Thank you for your continued support..... The 2011-12 season provided a record turnout as 80-players played on 5-teams, the largest number of players and teams in 8-years. Next season, 6-teams are planned.

| | Joe Sacco - Head Coach NHL Colorado Avalanche - Hometown: Medford, MA | | | Former Medford Youth Hockey Player and Colorado Avalanche Head Coach Joe Sacco Signs A 2-Year Contract Extension !!
DENVER, COLORADO - The Cororado Avalanche Hockey Club announced that the team has extended the contract of head coach Joe Sacco for two years through the 2013-14 season. "Joe has earned the opportunity to lead this young team" said Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman. In three years, Sacco has coached the Avalanche to a 114-109-23 record. This season, the NHL's youngest team (Avalanche), finished with a 41-35-6 record (88-points) and just missing the playoffs.
The Medford, MA native (Former Medford Youth Hockey and Medford High Player) was the finalist for the Jack Adams Award in his rookie season behind the bench in 2009-10. | | Keith Tkachuk - National Hockey League - Hometown: Medford, MA | | |
Former Medford Youth Hockey and NHL Player Keith Tkachuk was recently inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2011 along with Chris Chelios, Mike Emrick, Ed Snider and Gary Suter.
After moving to Medford as a young boy Keith Tkachuk would play Medford Youth Hockey as a PeeWee, Bantam and Midget before taking his talents to nearby Malden Catholic High.
After being drafted 19th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Keith Tkachuk went on to play 19 seasons in the NHL and is one of only four American-born players to score 500 career NHL goals. All total, the forawrd appeared in 1,201 games and recorded 1,065 points (538-527). Tkachuk made his NHL debut at the age of 19 and was named captain of the Jets by his second season with the team. The Medford, MA native broke the 50-goal barrier back-to-back seasons (1995-97) in the midst of Winnipeg's relocation to Phoenix.
Tkachuk recorded a career high and NHL leading 52-goals during the 1996-97 campaign with Phoenix, which also marked the first time an American-born player led the NHL in goals. After 10 years with the Winnipeg/Phoenix organization, Tkachuk was traded to St. Louis, where he would eventually retire after nine seasons (200-10) with the organization. His stay in St. Louis was interrupted by a brief stint in Atlanta late in the 2006-07 campaign. A five-time NHL All-Star and four-time Olympian (1992, 1998, 2002, 2006), Tkachuk, who played college hockey at Boston University, represented his country a total of eight times, including earning a silver medal at the 2002 Olymic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and helping the U.S. win the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.Back to top | | | | | | | MEDFORD YH 2011-12 GOALIE CLINICS COMPLETED | | | | by bob hurley posted 04/01/2012 
| | Medford Youth Hockey & Girl's Hockey Goalie Clinics | | | Our 4th and final "GOALIE ONLY FREE CLINIC" was held on Tuesday March 6th at the LoConte Rink, Medford. Twelve (12) current and future Medford Youth Hockey, Girl's Hockey Travel Team and In-House Program Goalies attended the clinic.
All American Goalie Clinics - Mike Geragosion and Impact Hockey are contracted to provide on ice instruction.
Our Medford YH Mite-Squirt In-House Program loaned several sets of goalie equipment for the new interested goalies to use during the clinic.
Funding for the clinic ice and instructors was provided by our Medford Hockey Skating and Skills Development Fund.
Best of Luck to all of our goalies who attended our 2012-13 Travel Team Tryouts. REMEMBER......Medford Travel Team Goalies combined received over $12,000 in discounts diring the 2011-12 season and more discounts are planned for 2012-13.

As you may know, all of the Board of Directors volunteer hours at the concession each and every week. The newly renovated LoConte Rink is expanding their weekly ice schedule that includes Medford High Boys and Girl's Hockey and to meet the demand, additional concession hours and volunteer workers are needed.
It's time to become more active as parents of players by volunteering weekend hours at the concession during the next three months, our busiest time of the year.
As an incentive, for parents that volunteer a minimum of 20-hours over the next three months, they will earn credit voucher for 1-player free travel team tryout fee at the upcoming March 2012-13 Travel Team Tryouts.

"Mustang Pro-Shop", our LoConte Rink Skate Shop needs ice skate donations!!
The LoConte Rink "Regular Season" is in full swing with high school hockey, public skating and school skating trips. Public Skating and School Skating Trips require a large number of skates for rentals.
Medford Youth Hockey and Girl's Hockey is accepting "Donated Ice Skates" to help meet the skate rental demands. Both HOCKEY SKATES and FIGURE SKATES of all sizes would be appreciated however the sizes needed the most in both hockey and figure skates are sizes 7, 7-1/2, 8, 8-1/2, 9 and 9-1/2.
You can drop off your donated ice skates at the LoConte Rink Concession Stand any night or on the weekend.
