47th Anniversary Flashbacks & NHL Draftees From Medford

Medford Recreational Hockey Association - Medford, Massachusetts
From 1975-76 to 2021-22 !!
Celebrating Our 47th Season Anniversary and (34) State Championships !!

MEDFORD, MA - It was the summer of 1975 when representatives from the three youth hockey programs that served the children of Medford met to discuss the possibility of merging all three programs together.

Medford Youth Hockey was a "Travel Team Hockey Program" that skated teams at various age levels.
North Medford Youth Hockey also was a "Travel Team Hockey Program" that skated teams at various age levels.
West Medford-Hillside Youth Hockey was an "In-House~Intramural Team Hockey Program that skated multiple teams at various levels and played only in Medford against other In-House~Intramural Medford Teams.

That all changed when an agreement was reached and all three programs officially merged to form the Medford Recreational Hockey Association. Medford Recreational Hockey (Medford Youth Hockey & Girls Hockey) was placed in Massachusetts Hockey District #10. To play in the season ending state tournaments at each age level except Mites, District playdowns are held to determine the District #10 representative.

FLASHBACK #1 - In just 5-years after the 1975 merger, the Medford PeeWee-A's from District #10 captured the 1980 Massachusetts PeeWee A State Championship. Over the next 42-years, Medford youth hockey teams would capture a total of (31) Massachusetts Youth Hockey State Championships and (3) Massachusetts Girl's Hockey State Championships.

FLASHBACK #2 - In 1996 Medford Youth Hockey made state tournament history when the Medford PeeWee-C1's defeated the Medford PeeWee-C2's to capture the Tier IV State Championship, the first time in Massachusetts Hockey that  (2) teams from the same city/town program would meet in a championship final game. Then again in 2001, the Medford PeeWee-C2's upset the Medford PeeWee-C1's to capture the Tier IV State Championship and repeat state championship history with (2) teams again from the same city/town program meeting in a state championship final game. Later, Massachusetts Hockey would create different categories at each level designation City/Town programs as Small, Medium and Large programs by the number of players, thus making it very difficult to have multiple teams advance to the state tournaments.

FLASHBACK #3 - What began in 1975 in a football and baseball rich Medford sports community, Medford Youth Hockey players began the climb that placed Medford, MA (Medford Recreational Hockey) on the hockey sports map !!
From 1981 to 1998 (8) Medford Youth Hockey graduates were drafted by the National Hockey League in their Amateur Drafts.
