Tips For Parent who are new to youth hockey

Here are some helpful tips for parents who are new to youth hockey.  These tips will help you navigate the season.

  1. Get to the rink early - Please get your child to rink early.  Most sessions and game are 1 hour in length and you cannot afford to be late.  You should arrive approximately 1/2 hour before your game or practice to give yourself plenty of time to get your child ready to skate.
  2. Talk to parents who have been there - At the rink you will meet plenty of other parents who have been there before.  Meet them, get to know them and they will be a treasure trove of information.
  3. Equipment Tips -  Other than helmets and skates, you don't need to buy brand new equipment for your child.  Places like 'Play It Again Sports' in Stoneham, or our own Equipment Exchange Program will help keep costs contained by allowing you to purchase used equipment as your new player starts in the program.
  4. Get Involved - The Medford Recreational Hockey Program is always looking for volunteers to help provide the best service possible to our members.  Feel free to volunteer when you register for the website or contact a board member for more information.
