Medford On-Ice Tryout/Evaluation Information

OUR PROGRAMS:    Medford Recreational Hockey Association, Medford Girl's Hockey, and Medford In-House Programs:

"Skate Medford" TRAVEL TEAM PROGRAM:   Medford Travel Team Hockey offers the most affordable tuitions in the area !

Medford Travel Team On-Ice Tryouts/Evaluations are held in March at the LoConte Rink, Medford for boys & girls ages 6-18, prior to the closing of the rink for the summer.
Most youth hockey programs across Massachusetts including Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey take advantage of the extra available Spring ice and the fact that all travel team
players and all In-House players are at their peak ability and skill levels at the end of the season.

"MRHA SPRING TRAVEL TEAM ON-ICE TRYOUTS" for the following season are very common as most area travel leagues begin their
seasons after Labor Day. Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey incorporate "The Medford System" known throughout the area
because Medford was one of the area's first programs to introduce outside graders to grade/evaluate their tryouts. Still used today, Medford
Youth Hockey & Medford Girl's Hockey contract professional grading companies to perform grading/evaluations throughout the tryouts.
Each player that tries out will receive a total grade that will be used to form travel teams from the list of all players.

If your player missed travel team tryouts and is interested in participating in the Travel Team Program for 2022-23 season, please contact our Board of Directors via email at [email protected]

MRHA IN-HOUSE (House League) PROGRAMS:  Learn to Skate, Development Clinic and Learn to Play Teams On-Ice Evaluations for Boys & Girls ages 4-12 are held in October at the LoConte Rink, Medford.

In-House Program On-Ice Player Grading/Evaluations are held at the beginning of the In-House Season usually in October at the LoConte Rink, Medford. (Learn to Skate, Development Clinic and Learn to Play Teams)

All new players and returning players attend on-ice grading/evaluation sessions on two (2) days.
Every player will be evaluated and placed in the appropriate ability group or team to begin the season.

During the season, each player's ability level will be assessed and players will be moved to the higher ability groups throughout the season.
The highest level Learn to Play Hockey will be comprised of (4) teams. These teams will follow USA Hockey ADM and play a mixed cross ice game schedule and full ice game schedule throughout the season.
